Royal House of Romania celebrates AGERPRES' 125th anniversary at Elisabeta Palace

The 125 years of uninterrupted activity of AGERPRES National News Agency were celebrated at the Elisabeta Palace, the ceremony being held in the presence of Princess Margareta and Prince Radu.

AGERPRES, the first news agency of Romania, has celebrated this year its 125th anniversary since establishment, in which context Their Royal Highnesses devoted an Evening at the Elisabeta Palace to the National News Agency.

In the speech delivered on this occasion, Prince Radu highlighted Romania's pioneer role in many areas along its history, the press area, included.
'Romania proved to be a pioneer in the press area also, as it had a national news agency at the time when few states had one. Bach then, the Elisabeta Palace did not even exist and this whole part of Bucharest was a lot different than it is today. (...) AGERPRES' big family is invited today at the Elisabeta Palace to properly celebrate an important part of our modern history,' Prince Radu said.
At the same time, he wished 'Many Happy Returns of the Day!' to Romania's National News Agency, telling the journalists of AGERPRES attending the ceremony that 'the flame of professionalism and devotion' to their profession should be kept alive 'for at least another 125 years.'
In his turn, AGERPRES General Director Alexandru Giboi remarked in his speech that the history of this institution is, in fact, the history of modern Romania, which the Agency presented, through the stories broadcast, 'in all its most important details.'
'The 125 years of AGERPRES mean not only history and a tradition, but also a very big pressure on me, on you, my colleagues, a pressure that urges us to keep the same professionalism and good practice standards in journalism which we have had until present,' said Alexandru Giboi, who thanked the Royal House for 'the close relations' it maintains with the National News Agency.
Representatives of the committees for culture of Romania's Parliament and correspondents of foreign news agencies participated in the event at the Elisabeta Palace.
The 125 years of AGERPRES have been marked in 2014 by the Royal House of Romania's awarding the institution with the 'Nihil Sine Deo' distinction within a ceremony carried out at the Peles Castle, by organising a photography exhibition about Romania in London, at the Reuters News Agency headquarters, as well as by an wide event that gathered in Romania directors of over 25 news agencies worldwide, a meeting that favoured both the development of AGERPRES' connections with the foreign partners and Romania's promotion as destination for investments and tourism.
